Liberian Community General Meeting

The Vice President, Mrs. Helen Nyema presided over the meeting.The meeting was called to order at 7: 25pm.

Items on the agenda for discussion were: “Standing Committees lack of efforts”, ULA-A invitation discussion, ACTS membership fees, July 26, program, Committees report, other matters beginning with the promotion of Mr. Foday Koroma.

Attendance: 17 persons attended the meeting.

Mrs. Yowah Nuah said the opening prayer.

Recognition/ introduction of visitors, friends and family members. William Fannoh introduced his brother in law, Mr. Joseph Kangoi who he invited at the meeting. The presiding officer welcome Mr. Kangoi and encouraged him to keep coming to meeting.

Standing committees: Mrs. Helen Nyemah, the presiding officer during the meeting questioned whether there was any reason why the committees were not making much efforts with executing their duties. Ms.Sarah Doe who is the Planning Committee Chairperson admitted that her Committee has not been effective but promised that as of now she will make sure her Committee be effective and make regular reports during general meetings.

Mr. William Fannoh on behalf of the Finance Committee stated that his committee has been making reports regarding financial activities. No other committee responded to this issue.

ULA - A invitation: As of today’s meeting, only five people names were given that are willing to go on the trip to Buffalo. There were several suggestions regarding how to get to Buffalo. Ms. Victoria Glotto suggested that each member whether going to Buffalo or not should contribute towards the trip and rent a car. Ms. Sarah Doe suggested that those who have cars make them available for the trip. Mr.William Fannoh volunteered to make his car available but stated that the community should be responsible for gas and toll back and forth. The estimated amount William requested to make the trip is $134.00. Sarah’s suggestion was carried and the community agreed to William’s request. Still on this issue, Mr. Foday Koroma suggested that the Community make an envelop (envelop with money) to take to ULA-A as donation for their program. Foday’s suggestion was accepted and the Community agreed to donate the amount of $200.00 to ULA-A. Total amount needed for the trip to Buffalo including transportation is $334.00. Ms. Victoria Glotto suggested that the Community get this money from its account and later tax members to replace it. The Community unanimously agreed to Victoria’s suggestion. In the main time pledges and donations were made regarding the trip. The Financial Secretary has a full report on the donations and pledges.

The rest of the items on the agenda including the promotion of Foday were not discussed due to the fact that we ran out of time.

Almost at the closed of the meeting, two visitors from Rochester Liberian Community arrived and stated that they received a letter of invitation from the Syracuse Liberian Community to attend a Baby’s shower today. The gentlemen stated that they got the letter on filed in Rochester which bears the president’s name ( Leo). The presiding officer made it clear that the Community did not sent such a letter regarding this issue but apologized to the gentlemen from Rochester for any problem it may had caused them. The two gentlemen showed an act of understanding and stated that they will go back to their community and let them know that the letter did not come from the Liberian Community of Syracuse.

The meeting was adjourned at 9pm
