Liberian Community General Meeting

February 6, 2010

121 Josephine Street, Syracuse NY

The Liberian Community general meeting was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Gbarjolo at 7:00pm. The President read the agenda and called the meeting to order. It was moved that the meeting form part of our record and was seconded by the Vice President, Mrs. Helen Nyemah. The meeting was purposely held at the home of the Gabarjolos to sympathize with them due to bereavement in their family- Mr. Gbarjolo uncle lost his wife in Washington DC  few months ago.

Mr. Johnson kumeh was named by the president to express a word of condolence on behalf of the Community but due to the fact that he (Kumeh) did not arrive on time during the meeting, the President, Mr. Leo Dossen performed this task. The President welcomed remarks of encouragement from members to the berave family. Ms. Mamalo Bengo and Mrs. Yowah Nuah said a few words of encouragement. Mr. Johnson Kumeh though came in late but also had a few words to say to the family and the Gabarjolo family expressed their profound thanks to the Liberian Community.

Other items discussed on the agenda were, the cost of annual meeting dues, committee’s reports and the edited constitution.

Cost of meeting due- The Community had agreed that the current meeting dues which was $3.00 minimum and $72.00 annually be increased. Amounts voted on were, $4.00 and $5.00 respectively for minimum  meeting dues. The amount of $5.00 carried the majority vote. It was therefore established in the meeting that each member pay the amount of $5.00 minimum due and $120.00 annually.

The president stated that members who have been paying their meeting dues since his Administration payments will be subtracted from the annual  amount of $120.00 and they will only have to pay the difference. In order words, if you have already paid $20.00 since this Administration took over, your balance meeting due for the rest of the year will be $100. All meeting dues are expected to be paid in full by December which is the end of each year but members are strongly encouraged to pay their dues before the last month of the year in order to allow the Community to function financially.

Committee’s report- There were no committee’s report during the meeting.

Constitution- The discussion on the Constitution continued from where it was left at Article 12.3. During the January 16 meeting. Mardea read the constitution and it was discussed article by article and section by section. Due to the fact that we ran out of time, discussion on the constitution was not complete. It was scheduled to continued at the next general meeting.

Other matters: Ms. Victoria Seton informed the Community about the availability of an after school program within the Syracuse Community that our kids (The Liberian Community) may benefit from. Victoria stated that she is part of this program and is encouraging anyone who is interested to take advantage of it.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15pm and Mrs. Agnes Gabarjolo said the closing prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Emmanuel Tambah

General Secretary Liberian Community of Syracuse
