Liberian Community General Meeting
April 3, 2010
Meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Leo Dossen. Items on agenda included, invocation, minutes of previous meeting, recognition/introduction of visitors,friends and family members; clarification of Rochester Liberian Community invitation; ACTS membership fees not completed, July 26 program; Signature of the Constitution Committee; Committee’s reports, Due and other matters.
Attendance: 28 persons were present in the meeting.
Opening prayer- Victoria Seton said the opening prayers
Previous meeting minutes- The secretary read the previous meeting minutes and it was approved to form part of the community’s records.
Visitors- Jacob Nagbe and his fiance Grace attended the meeting. They went purposely to invite the community (LICOS) to attend their wedding shower which is scheduled to take place on July 17 2010.
Clarification of Rochester Liberian Community Invitation- The president Mr. Leo apologized to the community for the embarrassment one of the members who is Christopher Diayee Caused the community. Christopher Daiyee invited the Rochester Liberian Community to attend his baby shower using this community’s name "LICOS" when he was not authorize to do so). Christopher Diayee was not in the meeting even though according to the president, Christopher stated that he would attend today’s meeting to apologize to the community for his action.
ACTS membership fees was not completed. Some members expressed that they do not understand the role of ACTS. However, the issue was put to rest till informations about ACTS becomes available to create awareness among LICOS' members about what the organization (ACTS) is about. Mardea Warner volunteered to do fact finding Regarding ACTS and promised to report to the community.
July 26 program- Sarah Doe, the Chairperson of the planning committee presented a proposal in her report on behalf of her committee of activities on the day of the celebration: 1. “Marching with cars playing music, Men wear T- Shirts with Jeans, “women wear English wax with T-Shirts” 2. “invite friends from other states” 3. Publicity (Channel 9, CBS and NBC). Nonworking youths will pay $10 and Working adults $20. Tickets for indoor program will be $10.00. “Youths who will pay $10.00 contribution fees will not pay for tickets for the indoor program“.
The Secretary was asked to send a “Save the Dat letter" include list of activities that we have available now to communities that we (LICOS) are planning to invite to attend the program and detail informations will follow later. Mardea suggested that the Planning Committee be open to as many members who are interested to become a part of the Planning Committee. She (Mardea )voiced that she would like to attend the planning Committee’s meetings.
Signature of the Constitution committee -The president suggested that all members of the Executive Committee sing the Constitution of LICOS. The signing is expected to take place on the 17th of April 2010.
Committee’s report - The membership committee chairperson, Mr. Jacob Saywon stated that he is encountering problem with Liberian who he is trying to encourage to come to meetings because these Liberians did not receive their financial's report from the previous Administration. Jacob demanded a financial's report from the previous Administration to carry on his work.
Financial's Report - Mr. William Fannoh reported on finical's transaction made during the Community trip to Buffalo, NY.
William stated that they spent the total amunt of $349.59 for the trip. After, Mr. William Fannoh report was completed, the President, Mr. Leo Dossen thanked and praised all those who joined him on the trip and represented the Community to Buffalo.
AOB- On other matters, the president, Mr. Dossen appointed Mr. Foday Koroma as Assistant General Secretary and Joseph Grey as member of the Membership Committee.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM in good faith and Mrs. Sarah Yuah Nuah said the closing prayer.
